8 mile run, all night sickness and a giveaway coming soon

Saturday I headed out around 8:30 for my 8 mile run. I had run 6 miles the previous week, but had to bump it up to 8 for this weekend. It felt great outside, not to cold and not to hot, so I turned on my Garmin and headed out. By about mile 4, I started getting hot, so I took off my long sleeve shirt and tied it around my waist and kept going. I was bound and determined to do 5 miles for sure without stopping and I did that! It just so happen that on this day I had a ton of people texting me, calling me and trying to get in touch with me. Isn't that how it always is whenever you run your long runs. I stopped at one point and talked to my sister-in-law Karen for a little bit and then started back out. I am very different with GU, so after I finished 5 miles, which was around an hour, I took some of my GU chomps and some water and headed back out for 3 more miles. I finished my 8 mile run and it felt great. I did my 6 mile split faster than I had previously, so I was kind of excited about it.

I always think about how it is not fun to run by yourself, but sometimes I like running alone. I feel as though sometimes I get dragged down by other people, but I have trained for so long now by myself that I am starting to get used to it. I run occasionaly with my husband, but he is usually working. I use that time that I run alone to figure things out and think. Granted that is hard to do for 13.1 miles, but it is possible. haha
Heading out for my run early in the morning. Gotta love new running gear.

Last night however, was not fun. I ended up throwing up most of the night I think from what I ate at Logans Roadhouse. I had some chicken fried steak and I was fine all day Sunday and ate just fine and then Sun. night it hit me. I was up every 2 hours or so because my stomach was killing me. My friend asked me today if I was going to go run, and I told her she was crazy. I am not running for a few days, because I am so lite headed right now. Hopefully I feel better real soon. I hate being sick, and espcially when I am throwing up.

Less than 4 weeks!!!

Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!   In less than 4 weeks from now, I will be running my second half marathon, the Rock n Roll Mardi Gras! I have only been training for 5 weeks (9 in all) and I am pretty nervous. I had to take off a month after my last half marathon because of my knee. It was hurting me pretty bad, but now it is so much better.

I have 8 miles coming up. I did 6 last week and it went pretty well. So, now up to 8 and then it is only 5 more miles until I reach my goal again! I have also made a decision to add another half marathon to my list. I am going to be running "The Gusher Half Marathon"It is 2 weeks before the Rock n Roll Dallas, but I am going to run it very easy with a few friends. My ultimate goal is to possibly break 2:30 in the Dallas Half. But if I do not do it, then that is okay. I also have another one where I can do that.

I will be updating soon with some more pictures from disney...here is a few to leave you with for now though.

Compression Socks...Yes or No?

It feels like I have not stopped running for a while. I started back up in my training for my next half marathon, the RnR New Orleans the Monday after Christmas. I started counting and I have 9 weeks until I run this race. I am not to worried about PR'ing, because I had to take so much time off after my other race.

What I am working for with this race is to get the three medals...RnR Mardi Gras, RnR Dallas and then the 26.2 Musical Miles.

If you run 2 RnR races in one year you can get this medal! I am completely and totally excited about this one. I am hoping to maybe PR in the RnR Dallas with a sub 2:30. We will see if that happens.  I have also added another half marathon to my list. I am going to be running The Gusher 2 weeks before RnR Dallas. The Gusher will be a sort of training run for me.

I am having to bump up my mileage a mile to two miles each week on my long days since I have such a short time period to run. I ran 6 miles this past week on my long day and this week I have 8 miles. I am feeling good while running, so hopefully I can keep it up.

My question to all of you that may or may not read my blog is; What do you think of compression socks?

I have heard some people like them and some people do not? What is the benefits of wearing them when you are running. What are the downsides about them. Where is a good place to get them from? How do they help? I am curious and would possibly like to try them for my next race that I am running if they will help.

Any advice or suggestions is greatly needed. Thanks everyone!
